In the bdsm world we are forever labeling others, and ourselves. Roxanne doesn’t much like the label submissive being applied to her; especially I think when she sees it in print. I believe that she much prefers other labels, labels that many would find a good deal more offensive.
Thinking about all of this got me to thinking about myself. The labels I give myself. Master, dominant, top, shaman, which is it, which should it be? I suppose it depends a great deal upon whom I am playing with at the time. One would be hard pressed to label himself Master while playing with a confirmed bottom for example. It also depends I think upon the scene of the moment. Is the scene being done for personal healing or growth, some other higher purpose? If so, shaman seems much more appropriate than any of the commonly used bdsm labels.
Certainly we are all so much more than the labels we choose, whatever we decide to call ourselves. It is I think always good to look beyond them, to consider other possibilities, other labels for the moment.
